Accession is a new network borne out of passion to help make a difference in the development industry by bringing together women and other leaders in the built environment with younger professionals at the early or mid-stages of their careers.
The name "Accession" means many things, including to rise or climb, to enter a position of influence, to increase in number, or to add to a collection.
Our focus is on diversity, equality, support, community, and learning. Our motto is “We rise by lifting others”.
By providing a forum for discussion and the opportunity to meet and learn from others, we hope to create a space that promotes collaboration and supporting others, identification of challenges, and the potential for change.
Accession is open to anyone who wants to help others and make a difference in the industry. We believe that by lifting others, we all rise together.
Join Accession to be a part of this initiative.
Accession was formed after a series of events organized in 2020 to 2022. These events brought together women from different backgrounds with varied experiences and passions in the built environment, and they found common themes and challenges they faced. The events highlighted a sense of community and willingness to lean in and continue the conversation.
Through further conversations with like minded people, Accession Network was formed, with the idea to help younger generations by providing support and answers to the challenges they face in their early careers..
Accession is small and dynamic, and we aim to host at least three events per year. We are at the early stages but will evolve over time.
However, to start, the events will be by invitation, either from those who have expressed interest or from those who have attended before.
We aim to involve a diverse range of people from different stages of their careers, with the following objectives in mind:
1. Providing an opportunity for attendees to meet new people
2. Creating a safe space to discuss important issues and challenges with chatham house rules in place
3. Leaving the event feeling inspired
4. Identifying and discussing ways in which the collective can help or assist in tackling challenges, such as raising awareness in the industry or starting a conversation with someone who can help to address these issues.
Accession isn't exclusively for women, it's for everyone.
Being part of the Accession network should not be time-consuming, and you can dip in and out as you please. If you like the idea of Accession and are interested in shaping it, hosting events, sharing ideas, or helping others, please get in touch.
